2012-2013

Seeing all the posts about this new year's eve and the coming new year make me wanna chip in and write something about my 2012 as well.

Year 2012 has been a meaningful and remarkable year for me. It is the year that I officially enter the family of 20's and also the year where I get to set my foot on different places around Europe.  It is indeed a smooth and memorable year for me without much disappointments that really matter me.

Year 2013 will still be a big question mark and unknown for me. Talking about my new year resolution, what really matters me is my future job as I'm going to enter the job market in 4-5 months time. People always say that the first job is a major milestone in ones life which will determine your future career prospect. So my biggest resolution this coming new year is to enter a good company which allows me to work and learn in the same time.

Besides that, I definitely hope that everything surrounding me will be getting better, my family, relationship, friendship etc. From 2012-2013, now what I'm looking forward most is the day where I can step in Singapore and going home!

Happy new year! Buon Anno!

Brownie and Brownbie #3

I am going London this coming Saturday so was searching for clothings at Topman website as Topman and Topshop are from UK so they must be cheaper if buying there.
I was planning to get a jacket so I shared the website link to Brownbie asking her to give me some suggestions ( Lazy to browse through all the choices so give her the job HAHA )
So after awhile she gave me a reply like this

Do the 21 things normal people do not do

Came across this article online and find it quite meaningful so decided to share it here.
The Colloseum, Rome

Many people want to get ahead. Yet, most sit back and critique those who are successful. They wonder how a few are able to excel where the majority struggle.

If you want to get ahead, there is not a shortcut or secret. However, one place to start is to do the things that successful people do. The things that other people don’t or won’t do.

Get Up Early – Not enough time in your day? Get up earlier. Starting your day before others do, empowers you to get more done while others are sleeping. You will soon find that you accomplish before the day begins than most people do all day.

★Prepare for Your Day – Head into your day prepared. Do your homework. Prepare for the events of your day whether it is school, your job, or even having fun.

★Exercise- Too many people say that they want to workout, but few do. Do some sort of physical activity each and every day. Keeping your body in shape, motivates your mind and productivity.

★Finish Ahead of Deadlines – It seems that our society had become numb to the concept of deadlines. However, to avoid lost opportunities, penalties, and other life friction, ensure that you finish ahead of deadlines whether for a simple task, a bill, or a major project.

★Have Goals – Successful people have goals. There has been a rising trend lately, to “not have goals.” All this ensures is that you won’t fail because you haven’t tried to attain anything. Instead of going wherever life takes you, set goals and choose your own path.

★Take Chances – No one ever won by sitting in their comfort zone. You have to get up and get out. You have to be willing to take risks… sometimes big, sometimes small. Only going outside our boundaries can we grow.

★Don’t Complain – Complaining is a waste of time. It is procrastination in disguise. Instead of whining about something, do something about it.

★Dream Big – Many people dream too small. Think big… then dream bigger! Push yourself to even higher levels than you thought possible. We are all stronger than we think.

★Have a Hobby – All work and no play doesn’t do the body or mind good. Have a hobby and let your passion breathe energy into all areas of your life. It doesn’t matter what it is, as long as it drives you.

★Learn New Things – Many stop learning the day they leave school. Successful people are lifelong learners. Never pass up the chance to learn a new fact or a new skill.

★Say No – The ability to “say no” is an important skill. Many think that winners always “say yes,” but in reality they are very choosy in their endeavors. They know when to pass up something that is not a priority.

★Defend Your Time – You can get more money. You can get a new job. (You can even get new friends.) However, you can never get more time. And you never truly know how much you have left. Defend your time, it is your greatest asset.

★Do it Today – You are your habits. And your habits are what you do today and every day. Don’t put off good intentions or actions until tomorrow.

★Help Others – Never underestimate the power of helping others. Life is often a team sport, and you never know when your teammates will be there to support you. Always be there for them.

★Make Decisions -Don’t be shy with decisions. Most people don’t make them, and life ultimately decides for them. Choose deliberately. Don’t fear the bad decision. You learn from them and there are few decisions in life where you can’t change your mind later.

★Learn From Your Mistakes – Take chances, make decisions… even make mistakes sometimes. Just ensure that you learn from them. Every mistake should lead to new wisdom. Don’t repeat lessons.

★Make Your Own Luck – Don’t wait for things to come to you. Go out and get them. The winners in life did not wait for things to be delivered to them. They made their own luck.

★Listen – Sometimes you need to stop and just listen. If you rush through life, you will miss the important things. What people are trying to tell you… both good and bad. And of course, listen even harder with friends and the ones you love.

★Change Yourself – Most people don’t change. They might grow older, grow bigger, but they often stay the same person. The most powerful people are those who can change themselves.

★Do The Work – There is no shortcut to success. You have to do the work. You have to do the practice. You have to spend the time on the things that you want to accomplish.

★Don’t Quit – A final word, never quit. Too many people quit just short, even in sight, of their dreams. Almost as if they don’t really want to get there. Winners keep going after the quitters have given up.

It's about Italian #2

Spritz

Spritz is a wine-based cocktail which you can find in northern part of Italy. The drink is prepared with Prosecco wine, a dash of some bitter liqueur such as Aperol, Campari, Select or Cynar. The glass is then topped with sparkling water. It is usually served over ice and garnished a slice of orange or lemon.

It is a wildly popular drink in Italy especially in Veneto area. So if you happen to come to Italy, make sure you order yourself a glass of Spritz. Its price ranging from 1,50Euro to 3Euro depending on the restaurant you dine in. Normally it is served with tit-bits like potato crisps or sandwiches.

Speaking of the taste, it tastes like typical cocktail, not too alcoholic (about 11%), and with some orange sourish.
The bright orange colour is tempting enough and it is actually the first drink I had in Italy.
My boss introduced it to us in our very first dinner together.
Some of the menu in the restaurant doesn't include Spritz in it but they do serve Spritz.
So order a glass of Spritz and drink like a local! :D

Brownie and Brownbie #2

It was Friday so I was asking Brownbie if she wanna Skype because we have not been Skype-ing for more than 10 days due to her internship. She said yes so I made her to sleep first as we only Skype at 2am her time.
So at 2.08am her time (she is expected to be late haha) we started our conversation.
The Skype with her is always relaxing despite her sleepiness at first. haha
So we were chatting happily and..

Brownbie : eh do you know Pei Fen?
Me          : (thinking....yea I know one Pei Fen who is from Taiping but no way she will know her) Pei Fen?
                  Which 1?
Brownbie : noh..you know the Singapore FM 933, one of the famous DJ called Pei Fen?
Me           : Ooooo.. heard of that. Why leh?
Brownbie  : My supervisor said I resemble her leh. And she is the second 1 who said that. haha
Me           : Oooo really? Haha. Who was the first 1?
Brownbie  : My secondary school friend lor.
Me            : Hmm how to write her name in Mandarin? Let me Google and see. hehe
Brownbie   : noh.. the very common Pei Fen characters which you can think of lor.
Me            : very COMMON?  ooo the 'pei' with the 'dan ren pang' and the 'fang' with the 'cao zi tou'?
Brownbie   : Yep!
Me            : (Googled 佩芬 FM933)
oooo..not bad la. you reasonably resemble her. haha

So now I know how Pei Fen looks like. Thanks to Brownbie! haha

It's about Italian #1

After staying in Italy for 11 weeks, I think I shall start blogging about Italians.
In another 11 weeks I will be back to Singapore, back to home, graduating, start working and and work work work.
I know I will miss this place no matter how much I miss home now. I know it's still too early to say this.
11 weeks isn't short, but for me, 50% has finally passed, another 50% to go and when the figure draws to 40, 30, 20, 10 and eventually I will be back!

So I'm gonna write about what I've learned about Italians during my 5 months stay in Italy.

So today I saw one of my colleague, Manuel who just had a haircut.
Me       : Manuel, just cut your hair? Nice hair cut!
Manuel : No, it's just that my ears grow bigger.
Me       : Huh? Ohh okay. Yeah you are right, your ears look bigger now! (bursting into laughter)

Then, Manuel told me that that is one of the Italians' joke about someone who just had a haircut.
So next time when an Italian cuts his/her hair, you should walk up and say, ' Hey your ears have grown bigger!' haha
Okay, so this is Italian.

Brownie and Brownbie #1

I bet all of us know what Brownie is.
But what you think is not what you get. Brownie has a special meaning to a pair of couple who is now separated by 7 hours time difference, and i-dont-know-how-many miles apart and yet to meet again in 79 days.
Brownie is actually a Rilakkumar neck rest bought by Brownbie to me.
Say hi to Brownie...

So now the question is who's Brownbie?
Brownbie is the one who never fails to make me happy and love me more than anyone else. Hehe
So how does the name Brownbie come by? Both of us are  using an app called Between. And my name in it is Brownie while hers is Brownie's baby. So make it short  I'll call her Brownbie.
And so happened that I am a regular reader of Timothy Tiah, www.timothytiah.com and he started to blog about funny conversations of him with his wife and I personally find it very meaningful and would be a great memory for both the couple or spouse.
so I was talking to Brownbie about that and I told her to blog about our conversations like what Timothy does. And the lazy her being lazy cleverly push this job to me. So I'm being a good boyfriend gonna start with our first conversation Brownie and Brownbie #1
So I was at the company today having meeting and I was too boring so I secretly took out the phone and Whatsapp her.
So we were chatting halfway and I was asking her to give me one kiss. So she gave me this..
I managed to suppress my laugh but still can't stand but to smile like a fool to myself. I wished at the point of time nobody was noticing my facial expression. haha
I love you, Brownbie! <3 p="p">

A random post

Another boring night.
Reached home from company at 7.15pm.
Rushed into the bathroom after putting 2 eggs in boiling water.
Finished bathing and the eggs were hardly boiled in time.
Applied lotions on whole my body. It's an extra step for me every time I bath in Italy and I find this very troublesome.
Peeled the eggs, mashed them, added in pepper and mayonnaise, uniformly got them mixed.
Cut tomato into thin slices.
Heated up the frying pan, melt the butter on it and finally the crepe on it.
Buttery smell soon filled the whole kitchen.
Crepe nicely done, ingredients filled, mouth watering.
Made myself a cup of hot milo, mouth opened wide, nom nom nom...

Laptop on. Funshion opened.
'Skyfall' played.
Blurry yet good enough to understand the contents.
Finished. Nothing special to be impressed.

and I'm here.
Writing this random post.
Grass is always greener on the other side.
This is very true.
I once longed to stay in Europe, the 4 seasons, the fall, the cold winter, the pearl white snow.
It's my week 10. 12 more weeks to go.
Now I wish I can go back to Singapore ASAP, go back to my family, my friends and of cause most importantly my baby <3 .="." div="div">
However, deep inside me I know when I'm back in Singapore 12 weeks later. I will again blame the hot weather, and miss everything in Europe.
This is the ironic truth about humans.

Okay. Enough of random thoughts.
9.54pm and I'm going to turn in now.
Good night world.

Happy Mother's Day

It's another silent night..hanging in YouTube didn't know what to watch, typed in 'Mother's day' and end up listened to a few songs about Mother's Day..
It's my 3rd year of not celebrating Mother's Day with my mum back in home town. I wish I could but I couldn't. The feeling was uneasy when you are stuck in other place and see other people posting pictures of them celebrating Mother's Day with their beloved mum. I'm not being envious but looking at those photos make me miss my family even more.
Saw a quote posted by my cousin just now which I find it very meaningful.

" Mother holds their children's hands for awhile, but their hearts forever."

This is so true. I still remember how I was raised up from a small naive kid to a soon-to-be 20-year-old teenager which is said to have grown up to face the world. I remembered her holding my hands, putting me in her warmest embrace. Even now, when I've learned to cross the road( even drive) by myself , sometimes when I am back in Taiping and happened to cross the road together with her. She will still hold my hand unknowingly, and leads me to cross the road.
I left for study 2 years+ ago and I'm confident enough to say that my mum is the best mum in the world!
She never fail to call me at night every day, since the very 1st day I left my home. As a son, I should be the 1 making the call but she does that. Every time she calls, she will ask if I've eaten, do I take fruits, supplement etc, and what happens around me. She cares about my everything. Just like what's quoted, mother holds her children's hearts forever!
Some times when she called at the wrong time, when I was busy with my assignments,or not in a good mood, and I acted indifferently, didn't listen attentively to what she said, or talked a-bit-rudely,I'm really sorry for that.
I'm sure there's no mum out there who never fail to call their children everyday. And I'm so lucky I'm the lucky one!
I grow up in a typical Eastern family, where actions are more apparent than words.
If I'm asked to say 'I love you' to my mum,I will definitely hesitate for a long time.
Hereby,I would like to convey my love to my mum. I know she's not going to see this.
A call to her is the only thing I can do to wish her Happy Mother's Day.
Happy Mother's Day,Mum!

Bersih 3.0

I could still remember myself writing about BERSIH 2.0 the last July.
And in less than 10 months time BERSIH 3.0 has been held again because the Najib led goverment refused to accede to BERSIH's recommendations to reform electoral process.
This time around PDRM took the same measure against BERSIH by locking down 53 streets in KL, making it immobilised. Building up barriers around Dataran Merdeka with barbed wires barricades, firing teargas towards the protesters and even knocked a few unarmed protesters down with police car. Despite the inhumanity shown by PDRM, surprisingly the Home Minister,Dato Seri Hishammuddin said , "The police behaved with utmost professionalism and restraint ."
So this is the professionalism meant by the ruling party.
We can find lots and lots of articles, pictures, videos etc online. The local media has been controlled so where we can get the genuine news is through the internet.
Marina Mahathir, the daughter of 4th PM even turned up in the rally to show her support. She even blogged about her experience during the rally here. And Channel Newsasia Singapore also interviewed her yesterday.
This is 1 of the video that featured the rally.

With the general election coming its way, I think the people is clear in their mind who they are going to vote for for a better tomorrow.
God bless Malaysia!

I shall not care

When I am dead and over me bright April,
shakes out her rain-drenched hair,
Though you should lean above me broken-hearted,
I shall not care.

I shall have peace,as leafy trees are peaceful
When rain bends down the bough;
And I shall be more silent and cold-hearted
Than you are now.

Sitting in front of laptop, squeezing my head , yet can't force out any word from my brain.
New sem just got started. Everything seems familiar but can't recall what I've learnt in the past 4 sems.
New class, new classmates, which is surprisingly comprises of all foreign students. Just imagine a class which is made up of 24 Malaysians,1 Vietnamese and 1 PRC with no Singaporean in Singapore!
Hope everything goes well in this last sem of study..

Hospital,my Utopia

Utopia,a Greek word,means good place.
Yesterday I came across a chinese book called 'Hospital,my Utopia 医院,我的乌托邦' by Dr.George Lee.

Dr.George Lee (李永业医生) is a Kelantan-born kampung boy who went Ireland to further his study at the age of 16. I could still remember reading his embarrassing stories of how hilarious he was when he first board the plane and flied to Ireland.
He had a poor command of English at that time and when his lecturer asked him what's his horoscope,he answered his Chinese zodiac sign--Chicken. His nickname 'George' also came from his Irish lecturer.
But soon he began to pick up his English and performed beautifully in his studies. He got admitted to top university in the world .
He had been servicing in England for more than 20 years. But few years ago he decided to give up his highly-paid profession in England and came back to serve his home-country,Malaysia.
The main reason he decided to come back is because he realised the importance of tracing ones root and tradition . He was a traditional Chinese boy who had a perfect Chinese background upbringing from his late father. He celebrates Chinese traditional festivals and follows all the traditions passed down from his father. His father had a great influence on him and his regret of not being a good son when his father was illy sick and not being able to be at his father's side when he passed away unfortunately led to his decision of coming back to Malaysia.
The book ' Hospital,my Utopia' narrates the stories he saw and experienced during his career as a urologist.
It is not a book of medical knowledge . It's a book of how he perceives and thinks about everything happened around him. It's all his life experience. I like the way he convey his message through his real stories. There's always positive message from every stories he was trying to say in the book. There are stories touching enough to make you weep.
I manage to find 1 which he wrote for Sinchew daily 2 years ago here .
Hospital,a place where people afraid of going. It's a place where most people like us have to unveil our masks and show our real selves.

We love to read touching stories. By reading them it makes us realise how lucky we are and treasure things around us more. Actually there are many touching stories which also happen on us. It's just that we don't know or pretend not to know coz we always take things for granted.

Dr.George Lee says,"The most beautiful and mightiest belief in the world, that's LOVE ."

With love, the whole world is Utopia !

Act Of Valor

Went to watch this movie at Cathay AMK Hub today.
It is a movie about a group of patriotic and enthusiastic active-duty U.S navy SEALS who fought hard against terrorism. I've long heard of U.S navy SEALS whose biggest mission was the hunt-down of Osama Bin Laden in Iraq.
It started off with a kidnap of a CIA operative which results in the discovery of a terrifying global threat. It is a group of people doing illegal weapon production and training people for suicide bomb. So an elite team of highly-trained Navy SEALS embarked on a adrenaline-fueled mission. The outcome of it will affect the fate of us all.
One of the best scenes I find in the movie was when the team was on a mission in Mexico. The chief of the team sacrificed himself by covering the grenade which was going to explode to save his teammates. It was a movie about courage, royalty and honour.
You can find out more about this movie here.

Dream and Desire

No one gets to the end of their lives and regret going for their dreams. We only live one life. There are no do-overs. If we let time slip by without pursuing our dreams, then we may lose our true calling in life.
But what differentiate dream and desire?
Dream brings us hope, but desires don't.
Desires only lead to more desires. It's like a never-ending cycle.
Dream brings us happiness.
Desires will only bring sadness, because you will never be contented with what you have.
Look at those old folks in old folks home. Sitting on wheelchair having problems moving around.

What keeps them alive? Dream or desire?

Timeless Love

Timeless love is an upcoming local Singapore movie which is to be released on 8th March.
First look at the chinese name of the movie, it reminds me of the famous Taiwanese love movie And the movie poster is quite the same.
So here is the synopsis of the movie which I found in Google :
Morgan is a wealthy university student who has been living with his grandmother since young. However, he is also a lonely boy whose systematic way of handling things that result in paranoia when something was amiss led to a rigidness and inflexibility in his behaviour that others find intolerable. His life soon changes when his grandmother passes away, and amongst her belongings, Morgan finds an island's lease and a few pictures of his grandmother and a stranger posing intimately in an island. He somehow recalled that his grandmother used to tell him stories of her regrets with regards to a watch and the island when he was younger... Intrigued about the identity of the mysterious man and to escape the paparazzi, he decided to head to the island to unravel the mysteries and seek answers.

Honestly I am not into local movie and I don't really know any of the directors and actors of the movie. Those whom I know are just Desmond Koh who I saw him hosting some Singapore TV shows on TV and Aloysius Pang who acted in the famous childhood movie I'm Not Stupid.
So I was at the actors meeting-up session at Choa Chu Kang the other day . It was just so coincident that me and my friends were there to have our dinner and saw this event going on.
So we just stopped by,joined in the crowd ( which was not really big,I think just 30-50 people, and mostly girllsssss) which somehow made 3 of us guys felt awkward to join in haha.

Sometimes I wonder why all the die-hard fans are normally and mostly girls. I think it's just their inborn nature. haha

Oh yeah happened to find the song of the movie in Youtube. The name is 当我们正同在一起. It's quite soothing and calming.

On top of the.... Singapore!

So I was at the highest point of Singapore yesterday---- the summit of Bukit Timah!
Feel so proud of myself. Haha
I've never make myself to the highest point of anyplace by my own effort ( my legs ).. Not even my home town--TAiping!
The highest point of Taiping is at the height of 1035m above sea level, the peak of Maxwell Hill. I've been there few times before but was by the jeep service provided there. I think I must seriously consider hiking up to the tip myself 1 day to consider myself as Taipingite!
Haha
So the hike yesterday was humid. With rain drizzling. It was really cooling with the mist around us as if we were in the heaven!
Siang kept complaining of how stupid he was to follow us for the hike yesterday which is why I think he is what he is today ( his size ) haha
The hike up was surprisingly easy. I never expect it to be so low! It's only 163m above sea level. And it's the highest point of Singapore!
When we reached the tip rain started to get heavier and so we hid from the rain under the 'summit hut' there.
We were the 1st to reach there. And few moments later few groups of people also reached and planned to stay there until the rain get lighter.
Faint splattering sounds came from our head, hissing as lightning struck the sky. I could hear the wind tugging at the trees, and small droplets of water rolled down the hut. We chit-chat happily. It was a nice moment chatting as the wind blowing at you.
We waited there for almost an hour and as we saw the people around started leaving we began to feel unease. When we were the only 3 left waiting there at last we decided to begin our journey down regardless of the rain. Jacky wore his poncho while I shared my small umbrella with the big sized Siang! Haha
We got drenched but we were warm inside. The experience wasn't bad at all. We enjoyed talking and joking around. And I think this is what friendship is all about! :)

3

Here comes the 3rd month of Year 2012 and shamefully this is only my 3rd blog entry of the year.
I've been getting really lazy to blog. Still remember last time I used to blog at least twice a week, and now it's like only once in a month.
After having a DEEP self-reflection,I've came up with 3 reasons of this sharp decrease of blogging frequency.

The very 1st reason : Time is precious. Instead of spending long time writing blog, I would go for Twitter!

My 2nd reason : I can hardly find a frequent-blogger around me. I don't want to be different! (I know it's just an excuse)

3rd : Blog used to be a good channel to channel my feelings. And now I've
found another better medium which is a definitely the best substitution.
And It's only a 'text' away!

3 reasons for my 3rd post and in the 3rd month of the Year.
I know it's lame but please bear with me. I am way too bored.
My semestral exam had just ended. End of Year 2. My roommate dumped me and joined his classmates for sweet 3 days 2 nights chalet by the picturesque seaside I-don't-know-where. 2 of my housemates,1 in his mid 30s I guess as per normal went out to work, the other 1 went visit his grandma and will not be back for the next few days.
I'm all alone in the small unit!
Downloaded an e-book called 'Personal Finance for 20s for Dummies' . I admit I'm a dummy haha. The first chapter teach me how to calculate my worth, define my worth, figure what I own etc. Wtf I own nothing I'm just a peasant with a pitiful amount of money in my bank acc .haha
Then I was too boring I went reading other people's blog. Just found out the Nuffnang co-founder,Timothy Tiah's blog. It's an active blog unlike Kennysia who don't update his blog that often anymore. I read of how he runs his company. How he flies to hold meeting with his so-called Nuffies. How he proposed to his gf which I think most of us watched the video on youtube.
And I just found out his fiancee is only 4 feet 9 in height. Okay I shouldn't complain much about mine anymore haha.
OMG I find myself so meaninglessly living now. I've the full collection of series in my hard disk 'Homeland' , 'The Mentalist' and 'White Collar' now I don't know which 1 to start from.
It's a nice weather to nap but I find taking nap a big waste of time.
OMG I find myself in an ironical state now......

Sometimes..

Sometimes I feel happy , sometimes I don't.
Sometimes I feel contented , sometimes I don't.
Sometimes I feel restless , sometimes I don't.
Sometimes I feel tired , sometimes I don't.

This is life. Learn to accept the fact.
Accept what God endow to us.

I'm blessed!

I still remember me posting about how I aim for it and fought hard for it..
And now the result is OUT and I'm IN!
Thanks God!
Yea for this I really want to thank God!
Keeping fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly and I'll be flying in the year end!
